Medical illustration and animation

Client: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta, GA

This CD, titled the Genetic Basis of Cancer, was a result of studies on the possible link between genetics and cancer.

Original illustrations, like the dna at left, were created by a medical artist at Emory, in colored pencil on textured gray paper.

After scanning, I prepared the drawings by separating backgrounds from moving parts, cleaning up lines, and adding details according to the script. Here, the dna strand is ready for animation.

When necessary, as in cell division, I used Elastic Reality to morph the in-between stages needed, and assembled all the parts in Macromedia Director. A programmer then took the animations and scripted the CD for functionality.
